Name of Technology: Jing http://www.jingproject.com/
Summary: Jing is a downloadable software in which you can easily take pictures or videos of things on your computer screen. You can share these instantly on the web via website, blog, etc. There are two different versions of Jing, one of which is free. With the pay version, you are able to upload to youtube, makes uploading faster, records full videos, and add a webcam view of you to videos for $14.95 a month. This software would be good for teachers so they don't have to continuously repeat themselves with lesson plans. They could easily use Jing to make lesson plans with webcam view of them teaching it and post it online.
Using it myself: Jing wasn't overly difficult to use. I had to download the software, but only got the free version, and there really isn't much you can do or accomplish with the free version. I read about the website in the about us section, and looked at what the free version had to offer under a link titled "free version."
Try it out: http://screencast.com/t/vi50INo5xv
trying it out, I just went to iupui's map and captured the image of just the map. From there, I saved it to a gallery, and pasted it to this website.
Tips: My biggest tip for understanding this software is to download it to start, because once you have it downloaded, there is a tutorial video you can watch which will show you how to use it. Also, if you're one who constantly looks up the same information over and over, this is a good website to use, because you can capture that image and you can easily pull it up by typing in the web address.

Emerging Technology
I chose Twitter as my emerging technology.
Link to my twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/danicoll08
Twitter is an information network that allows you to keep up to date on numerous topics and/or people that are of particular interest to you. It was created in March of 2006 by Jack Dorsey. Each little bit of information you can find on twitter are called "Tweets." Tweets are things that are posted by other people to share with the network. Twitter is based in San Fransisco but is used in almost every country in the world. You can now use twitter on a variety of phones via sms message or application. Twitter now has over 175 million registered users with 95 million tweets written each day. Signing up is free and easy, and once you do it's just a matter of learning how to use the site. First, you need to set up a Bio. This is essentially an About Me section, where you can also add a picture. Next is figuring out who to "follow." Following just means that anytime that person makes an update via twitter, it will get sent to your twitter. The next step is making tweets. Making a tweet is like changing your status on facebook. You can tag people in your tweets as well using the @ symbol before typing in their screen name. There is also space to send a direct message, which will be sent privately to the persons inbox. One of the last things you need to know about twitter is the use of Hashtags. Hashtags make a word easily searchable. For example, if you wanted to find information and tweets on a singer that you like, you could type in #Christina Aguilera to bring up a list of tweets that had her name in it.
Twitter is not only a good resource for people who are just interested in "following" people they like, but it is also good for businesses, keeping up-to-date on news, and doing good for the community. Businesses are able to use twitter to keep customers informed on things going on. They can easily tweet out mass messages with up-to-date information regarding their business, and are able to get feedback from the customers almost instantaniously. Twitter is also good for getting informed on different trending news topics. Whether it be searching for a topic, or just reading others posts, news is always a popular thing to tweet about. Last, Twitter can be good for the community. People share links to different benefits and/or fundraisers all the time. Celebrities are very known for this. For example, Hope For Haiti was a very popular trending topic on Twitter.
I randomly made a twitter account quite a while back, and never really started using it much. It's not that I don't like it, I just personally don't have much of a use for it. I logged on a few days ago and set up my profile, and just looked around a bit on the website. It's very user friendly and easy to use. Once you get the hang of the # and @ symbols, it could actually be quite entertaining to use. I currently am only following 3 people, and have only tweeted one time. I think this tool could be very useful for those who need to keep others informed on specific things. Businesses should take advantage of a website like this, but for me as a college student, it just really doesn't seem to do me much good besides for the entertainment value.

The only tip I'd really have for figuring out how to use twitter is just to either google it, which is what I did, or just browse the website. You will start to understand once you start following people and seeing what others are doing.

Setting Up a Blog
Blogger is actually a quite simple and fun website to use for a beginning blogger. I thought that this would actually be more difficult than it was to set up, so I was pretty suprised at how easy it came. In fact, I spent most of my time trying to get a layout that looked good. If you spend some time getting to know the site, you can actually find a lot of interesting things to put on your profile. For example, I put the fish gadget on mine, where the fish follow the pointer of your mouse. Another bit of advice I would give is to spruce up your blog a bit. Don't let it be boring. Nobody will want to read a plain webpage. If you make it interesting and appealing to look at, you'll probably find that your blog will be more successful.
